ART is a dual tribute. Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers were a groundbreaking phenomenon. With much love and respect for Blakey's incredible musical legacy, we've added our own 'flavor' to it... We hope you enjoy our guaracha, songo, cha cha, bomba, and much more!

Like Blakey, our dear friend and mentor, Jan Laurens Hartong, gave his younger band members ample musical space to develop their art. The spiritual father of Nueva Manteca, he was not only the pianist, band leader, composer, arranger, and promoter for many years but also continually came up with new ideas and concepts for the band. As a classically trained pianist, he was always fully informed about the latest developments in jazz, Latin music, and music in general.
